Touch A Life Project – Family #3

The next stop, we visited Taison Dihim’s family. This is a 14 year old boy  with cerebral palsy. Don’t know what that means but was told it has something to do with Epilepsy aka “Sawan Babi”. Both the parents are working during the day as farmers. Taison stays at home during the day, on his own. The family  stays in a peaceful looking village community which I do hope they help one another. They seem to have a good shelter and facilities.

The poor kid was not able to communicate and just look at the Lion members who crowded the house, handling over the goody goods.

Touch A Life Project – Family #2

The 2nd family we went to was Sam ak Seot’s house at Kampung Bunuk which was also in the 10th mile area if im not mistake. We just follow the lead of the social welfare officer, not knowing where exactly we’re heading. He lived quite deep in the village. It looks like a pretty established community. There were concrete house, school, facilities, power, water, cars and business going on in the village.

Anyway, 60 year old Sam ak Seot had a stroke and also lead to partial disability of his body movement. Able to walk a short distance with his cane made from broom handle. Not able to walk on uneven surface. Currently living with his wife. Used to work as a farmer, now no longer work.

We went into Mr Sam’s house, carried in the goods. Got to know their life and plight.  A little bit of chit chat and crowding. The more the merrier.

Touch a Life Project – Family #1

As one of the FOL (Friends of Lions), i volunteered or should I say “kepo” in helping out this project. Just contribute a small part in this project compared to what the actual New Century Lions Club Kuching Emerald members did. You can find more about the club here .

Woke up as early as 7am on Sunday morning. Yes. Sunday Morning. Had breakfast at 8.00am. Went over to the meeting point at Church Association at jalan laksamana chengho. Many were there early. I wasn’t the only FOL there. Few others helped as well.

We sorted out some of the donation goods into packages which will be given to each of the families that we will be visiting. The lions rolled out in 3 cars.  We went over to visit the first family in our list, Mr Philip ak Satur. Lives at around 10th mile area. Jalan Penrissen. He had a high fever 22 years ago (paraplegic) which caused him legs disability. Currently lives with elderly mother and younger sister who take cares of him. His main source of income is making parang out of used motorbike springs. It takes 2-3 weeks to make one.  Two of the members bought the well handmade parangs for RM35 each.

Wasn’t there for quite long. I couldn’t stand it there as I became a mosquito magnet again for some reason. 8 mosquito bites as soon as I got off the car. Good thing it wasn’t aedes or malaria. I am still alive.
